Walking the Edge

A walk is a multitude of thoughts, felt through the rhythm of the body in motion. Walking the Edge was conceived of as a 24-hour-a-dayparticipatory event inviting New Yorkers to encounter and reflect up on New York City’s 520 miles coastline, to embody the reality between solid and liquid, constructed and unconstructed worlds in May of 2020.
Beginning May 20, of 2025, on the Rockaway Penninsula (left) Works on Water, with Carl Bailik, Rachel Stevens, and other arts and walkers walked 10-mile segments every Tuesday and Saturday to discover the ground truth of the New York City waterfront: its functions, paths, and impasses. New Yorkers are encouraged to explore the edges of their urban waterways, the opportunities that exist and roles this space can play. Walking the Edge was completed October, 25, 2025 at Virginia Point (right), in Little Neck, Queens.
