Walking the Edge
a Works on Water collective artwork

Performance
6 months

A walk is a multitude of thoughts, felt through the rhythm of the body in motion. Walking the Edge was conceived of as a 24-hour-a-dayparticipatory event inviting New Yorkers to encounter and reflect up on New York City’s 520 miles coastline, to explore the edges of their urban waterways, the opportunities that exist and roles this space can play, to embody the reality between solid and liquid, constructed and unconstructed worlds in spring of 2020. The project was paused by the COVID pandemic.

Begnning May 20, of 2025, on the Rockaway Penninsula (left) Works on Water, with Carl Bailik, Rachel Stevens, other arts and walkers walked 10-mile segments every Tuesday and Saturday to discover the ground truth of the New York City waterfront: its functions, paths, and impasses.  Walking the Edge was completed October, 25, 2025 at Virginia Point (right), in Little Neck, Queens.
