“To give a name, and, equip with arms” are the original definitions of the word ‘dub’,
which has since—in the shortening of the word ‘doubling’—come to mean lip-synced vocals overlaid in film or television. This collage series portrays several doublings: a dueling set of visual images, the doubling of womanhood and female characterization by actresses and drag performers. All of the women in these collages are ‘faking it’—either narratively or as men dressed as women. They are situated in opposition to signs of a world falling apart, including images of a public in protest and riot, armed and equipped for change.
